This tiny State is located entirely within Italian territory. It is one of the oldest Republics in the world. The capital rises on the slopes of Mount Titano (739 m high) and presents a medieval old town consisting of cobbled streets and surrounded by walls. On the three peaks of the mountain there are the three towers, fortresses dating back to the eleventh century.

To be seen

  • the cableway that goes up towards the historic center with a beautiful view
  • Monastery of Santa Chiara
  • Palazzo Pubblico
  • Church of San Quirino
  • The gate of the village and the Church of San Francesco
  • Basilica of the Saint
  • The walk between the 3 towers with an incredible view of the coast.

  • State Museum
  • Museum of San Francesco
  • Museum of Ancient Arms
  • Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery
  • Museum of the Emigrant

Private Museums:

  • Museum of Curiosities (Ascent to the Fortress, 26 – SM City)
  • Waxworks Museum (via Lapicidi Marini, 17 – SM Città)
  • Museum of Modern Arms (Contrada della Pieve, 2 – SM Città)
  • Torture Museum (Porta San Francesco Side – SM City)
  • Red Maranello Collection (Strada dei Censiti, 21 – Falciano)

About 30 minutes from the Villa dell’Artista there is this splendid ancient village, one of the most characteristic of the Montefeltro, located between the valleys of rivers Savio and Marecchia.

Its origins date back to the pre-Roman period, when ancient tribes of central Italian origin settled here.
It belonged to the Malatesta, Montefeltro, and finally the Lordships of the Fregos, who gave the name to the Rocca of the Xth century.
Under the Fregos, the beautiful old town was enriched with new buildings, such as the Palazzone, which houses one of the oldest theaters in Italy: the Angelo Mariani Theater, with its wooden structure.

I recommend visiting:

Located on the Western slope of Monte Carpegna, most of its territory is located within the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Natural Park and allows for relaxing walks in the lush Apennines.

Pennabilli owes its urban structure to the union of two ancient castles, that of the Billi above the cliff, and that of Penna above the rock. Its history has seen the succession of Umbrians, Etruscans, and Romans. Its beautiful old town dates back to the year 1000 when it was structured with fortifications, defenses, and sacred buildings.

In 1004 a descendant of the Carpegna family, nicknamed “Malatesta”, began the construction of the Fortress on the rock, marking the birth of the famous family that would have dominated the whole of Romagna.

It is advisable to discover this city along the roads that go up to the top of the two hills that make it up. So you can discover the wonders of this village, the mandala donated by the Dalai Lama, the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Park Museum, Mateureka (Museum of Calculus), and the World of Tonino Guerra with its “places of the soul”:

  • the vegetable garden of forgotten fruits:
  • the road of the sundials
  • the petrified garden
  • the angel with a mustache (a poetic museum that houses only one painting)
  • the sanctuary of thoughts
  • the refuge of the abandoned Madonnas
  • the Madonna of the snow rectangle

I also recommend an excursion to the lake of Andreuccio and the ancient village of Petrella Guidi.

  • il Piastrino
  • Belfico
  • Madamadorè in Novafeltria

Between Rimini and Riccione there is a large stretch of free beach that does not have hotels overlooking it, but only suggestive abandoned colonies. Despite being in Rimini, it is not very crowded and the central section is much loved by the GLTB community.

To get there just take the Adriatic State road South and after the airport take the first road on the left.

  • Bar Oasi
  • Rimini Terme
  • Casa Tua
  • Sol Y Mar

This is a small and charming medieval village, perched on a hill overlooking the valley. We recommend:

Visit to the Rocca dei Guidi di Bagno

It is one of the most interesting historical buildings in the Malatesta area dating back to the year 1000.

Mysterious tunnels, deep wells and strange events have fueled the legend of the ghost of Azzurrina, a five-year-old girl, daughter of the feudal Lord, who disappeared in the castle’s basement in 1375.

Walk in the village

Excursion to the Convent of the Madonna di Saiano

It is advisable to try the typical cuisine at the Zoffoli Restaurant at the end of the village.

This village is located 583 meters above sea level, on a huge rocky boulder. It is accessed by a single road cut into the rock.

On the highest point rises the impregnable Fort, remodeled by Francesco di Giorgio Martini in the fifteenth century, by order of Federico III from Montefeltro. Converted into prison during papal rule, the Conte di Cagliostro (died here in 1795) and Felice Orsini (1844) were imprisoned there.

The city was the capital of the county of Montefeltro and theater of civil and military battles for about two millennia, assuming with Berengario II the title of Capital of ltaly (962-964).

The city hosted Dante and St. Francis of Assisi, who received the Monte della Verna as a gift from Count Orlando di Chiusi (1213).

Architectural heritage includes:

the pre-Romanesque Pieve, the Lombard Romanesque cathedral of the century Xll, the Fort; The Museum of Sacred Art is scattered on the municipal territory, the ruins of several castles (Pietracuta, Piega), the Franciscan convent of St. Igne, the Dominican convent of Monte di Pietracuta, the church of Montemaggio.

The panorama that is enjoyed from San Leo is one of the most beautiful and characteristic of the Region and reaches the sea.

  • la Corte
  • Belvedere (pizza)
  • la Casina a Pugliano

It is recommended to plan a visit to the village on a beautiful clear day to enjoy a breathtaking view.

The town is also known as the “cradle of the Malatesta” because this is where the power of the Malatesta family began with Giovanni della Penna dei Billi (1150-90).

It was a nerve center of the so-called Villanovan civilization (of Etruscan origin) between the ninth and sixth centuries BC Rich findings have been brought to light by the necropolis excavated around the village and exhibited in the Museo Civico Archeologico.

Of medieval structure and rich in historical buildings, Verucchio stretches between two hills once crowned with mighty fortresses, that of the Passerello – on the ruins of which today a convent is located – and that of the Sasso on which the Malatesta Fortress stands, one of the castles best preserved in the area, which dominates the city and the plains.

It is worth noting a Romanesque church from the 10th century AD visible from the outside and the church of the Collegiate Church of San Martino.

In Villa Verucchio there is the Franciscan Convent that tradition wants founded by St. Francis in 1213. In its cloister stands a majestic colossal cypress over twenty-five meters high that is said to have originated from a stick planted by the Saint.

  • la Rocca (romagnolo)
  • Mastin vecchio (romagnolo)
  • la Barcaccia (tavern)
  • Casa Zanni (romagnolo)
  • Locanda abbruzzese (pizza and meat)
  • Osteria di villa (fish)

It is the Southernmost seaside resort of the Adriatic Riviera of the Emilia Romagna Region.
The city boasts seafaring origins and an ancient tradition of hospitality that dates back to when it was a resting place for travelers who crossed the Via Flaminia (200 BC). Equipped with an efficient receptive organization, it has recently been renewed thanks to an extensive urban redevelopment project involving squares, gardens, and public spaces. In 2008 it also inaugurated its marina.

It is an elegant and noble city: tree-lined avenues overlooked by shops and welcoming places where you can enjoy an aperitif or eat an ice cream, and squares restored and decorated with fountains which play on water and light. During the Summer, the Theater and the Arena offer outdoor shows and concerts.

The Museum of the Queen documents the history of Cattolica, with particular regard to the Roman-Republican period and the city’s maritime tradition.

It is also worth visiting the historical port with a square hosting a boat-shaped fountain in the middle, overlooking bars and clubs.
A visit to the Aquarium of Cattolica, the large theme park of the sea, is also recommended.

At about 30 minutes drive from the B&B La Villa dell’Artista is this elegant seaside resort, nestled in a centuries-old pine forest.
Here the Romagnola vivacity is combined with the tranquility of nature.

The center of Milano Marittima is, in fact, full of refined shops, restaurants, nightclubs and trendy bars.

In the pine forest are the futuristic Terme di Cervia, which combine nature and modern thermal science.

I also recommend a visit to the Butterfly House & Co., a charming 800 square meter heated greenhouse containing hundreds of butterflies and insects from around the world.
